• Condé Nast “Black Ball” benefit for African AIDS relief. Hammerstein Ballroom, 311 W. 34th St., nr. Eighth Ave., 8:30 p.m. Performers will include Damian “Junior Gong” Marley and David “Junior Gong” Bowie. Wait. Correction. Of those two, only Damian Marley is nicknamed “Junior Gong.”
• Louis Vuitton presents the works of Olafur Eliasson. Louis Vuitton, 1 E. 57th St., nr. Fifth Ave., 7 p.m. Among the scheduled guests: Pharrell Williams, Brooke Shields, Gina Gershon, and the man himself, Olafur Eliasson. Eliasson does a lot of abstract installation–sculpture work, for which we were going to mock him, but then we thought this and this were pretty cool. However, this reminded us of all the visual-arts-major projects that pissed off everyone who had to do actual work in college.
• Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory “Double Helix Medal” ceremony. The Mandarin Hotel, 80 Columbus Circle, nr. 60th St., 6 p.m. Expected to attend: James Watson (the DNA guy), Muhammad Ali (the boxing guy), Meredith Vieira (the Today girl), and the king of all media, Phil Donahue. You know, an ex of our roommate’s girlfriend set up a tent on a street corner as his thesis and then invited his graders to plant flowers with him in lieu of an oral defense. What an ass.
• NBA Wives “Behind the Bench” reception. Audemar’s Piguet, 40 E. 57th St., nr. Madison Ave., 6:30 p.m. Attendees slated to include ballerz (Shaquille O’Neal and Antoine Walker) and wivez of ballerz, like Deborah Williams, the bride of Knicks assistant coach Herb “Junior Gong” Williams.
