Three Punished for Deutsche Deaths

• More than a week after the Deutsch Bank blaze killed two firefighters, three FDNY honchos have been reassigned for failing to regularly inspect the building or come up with a plan to fight a fire there. [NYT]

• State GOPers are complaining that Governor Spitzer put his rogue communications director, Darren Dopp, back on the payroll (at $175,000 a year) and wonder if the guv rehired him to keep his mouth shut. [NYP]
• 9/11 rescue workers have twelve times the normal rate of asthma, with those who worked at ground zero on 9/11 and 9/12 and who didn’t wear masks hit worst, a new Health Department report finds. [NYDN]
• The legendary Record Mart in the Times Square subway station, closed since 1991, is scheduled to reopen on October 1, stocking CDs and DVDs instead of vinyl but still chock-full of the Latin tracks it made its name on. [amNY]
• And 10,000 cabbies may strike on September 5. Which is also the first day of Fashion Week. Maybe the fashionistas can fix things by giving Taxi Workers Alliance head Bhairavi Desai a free makeover or something? [NYS]
