Two More Hurt at Deutsche Bank

• Things keep getting worse at the Deutsche Bank building: Yesterday a worker for the sinister John Galt Corporation “lost control” of a forklift on the 23rd floor, from which it tumbled 200 feet to the ground, crashing through the roof of a shed and sending two more firefighters to the hospital. [NYT]

• The Taxi Workers Alliance, which represents a quarter of the city’s cabbies, announced plans for a two-day strike on September 5 and 6 to protest the rule requiring those touch-screen–GPS–credit-card devices in all cabs. Fun! [Metro NY]
• Con Ed officials announced yesterday they were starting “our long journey to
figure out” what caused last month’s steam-pipe explosion, cheerily proclaimed that right now they still have no idea why it happened. Reassuring, eh? [NYP]
• Coney Island’s Astroland may shut its doors in September over a rent dispute. The park’s operator, who sold the land to developer Joseph Sitt for $30 million last year, doesn’t want to pay him the rent he’s now demanding. [NYP]
• The number of pending lawsuits against the NYPD reached its highest point in five years last year, according to the city controller’s office. Coincidentally: So did the number of stop-and-frisks, up fivefold since 2002. [NYDN]
