PlanetOut Inc. has agreed to sell its magazine titles, Out and The Advocate, to Here Networks, the company that runs gay television channel here! TV. The twin titles, the largest and arguably most-respected gay titles in the magazine business, had a price tag of $6 million. That’s a significant drop from the $31 million PlanetOut bought them for in 2005, and what they get for it is two magazines that have combined national circulation of roughly 300,000 and advertising access to the gay demographic. Thrown into the deal are PlanetOut’s book-publishing outfits. According to the San Francisco Business Times, the magazine’s staff will also have to vacate their New York and Los Angeles office spaces by the end of the month. Which means Aaron Hicklin and his flock of twinks (full disclosure: We’ve written for both titles) might be flapping around for a while. Maybe they’ll finally give up on Chelsea and move to Hell’s Kitchen with all the rest of the gays?
