According to the Associated Press, Massachusetts senator Ted Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. After his seizure this weekend, doctors ran tests that discovered a growth in the left parietal lobe of his brain. Though doctors need to take more tests to learn what next steps to take, the normal treatment includes both radiation and chemotherapy, say reports. According to the AP, “it’s a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing. Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.” He hasn’t had a seizure since the weekend and is resting comfortably, his family said.
