Last we saw of Gossip Girl’s Jenny Humphrey, she was broken and defeated by Blair and her pack of frenemies, had made a fool of herself in front of the whole of Constance Billiard, and looked, frankly, like she could have done with a nice long rest in Eric’s old room at the Ostroff Center. Or…maybe she could go to boarding school? Because, you know, there aren’t as many entitled, rich kids with issues there. Mwhahahahahaha! Today’s Hollywood Reporter says that Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have begun work on a show based on another of Cecily von Ziegesar’s books, The It Girl, a spinoff series in which a stung-by-rejection Jenny heads off to “Waverly Academy,” an upstate boarding school, and reinvents herself as a popular girl amongst such characters as the awesomely named “Tinsley Carmichael” and “Easy Walsh.” We’re not getting our hopes up or anything: It seems sort of unlikely that CW will pick up a spinoff when the success of Gossip Girl has been confined to — well, this Website. But, hey, in the meantime, we can dream of ripped-from-the-headlines plotlines in which Jenny gets arrested for smuggling coke back from spring break in Venezuela and a walk-on for Tinsley Mortimer as the fictional Tinsley’s MILF who insists on referring to herself as her older sister. UES forever? Give us Wallingford, Connecticut.
