The First American ‘Equus’ Promo Shot Arrives — Yep, It’s a Shirtless Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe Shirtless Equus

In honor of the opening of ticket sales for Peter Schaffer’s Equus on Monday, publicists for the show have started doing what they do best — disseminating sexy/angry shots of 19-year-old Daniel Radcliffe’s exposed torso. We’ve always thought this marketing campaign — while a little hot in a pervy, exploitative way — is off the mark. Poor little Daniel is trying to shake off his Harry Potter image, not become a stripper. He wants people to see Equus for his acting, not his wang! (For those of you who didn’t read about it when this same show opened in London, the gist is that Radcliffe plays a guy who goes insane, blinds a bunch of horses, and gets naked.) Unlike the earlier marketing campaign images from the London performances, these pics don’t even have a woman in them. Or a horse! It’s like, “Oi! Come see this lil’ chap take his knickers off!” That, combined with a little Missy Elliot–style “Where’d you get them jeannnnns?”

Then again, it could be worse. The advertising campaign could be pictures of co-star Richard Griffiths naked.
