Al Sharpton Says Post Cartoon Might Be Kind of Racist

The Reverend Al Sharpton is questioning whether a Sean Delonas cartoon in today’s Post is tantamount to a racist attack on President Obama. In the cartoon, two police officers stand over a chimpanzee they’ve just shot — presumably the computer-using, face-eating one from Connecticut — and one quips, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” Get it? Because the stimulus bill is supposedly so god-awful that it seems like a kind-of-smart primate wrote it. (Honestly, we wouldn’t put it past this chimp. It drank wine only from stemware. Think about that. We’ll drink wine out of anything: a bottle, a cup, a mug, a box, a shoe.)

But Sharpton points out both the history of “racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys” and that the stimulus “has become synonymous” with Obama. By the process of syllogism, is Delonas calling Obama a monkey? There have obviously been some similar incidents like that before, and unfortunately, we can expect more in the future, because some people are just terrible human beings. But we doubt Delonas intended to send that message here, even if it could be interpreted that way. Besides, we all know that Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, Ben Affleck, and Planned Parenthood wrote the stimulus bill.
