Obama Isn’t Worthy of Honorary Degree, Says ASU

Something strange is going on at Arizona State University, which was fortunate enough to land President Obama as a commencement speaker only to snub him by withholding an honorary degree. “His body of work is yet to come,” spokeswoman Sharon Keeler, who probably can’t believe she’s being forced to defend this decision, told the AP. “That’s why we’re not recognizing him with a degree at the beginning of his presidency.” As in, serving as a United States senator, and then achieving the historic accomplishment of becoming the country’s first black president, isn’t an impressive enough “body of work” to merit a mostly symbolic degree that universities hand out to anyone willing to speak at graduation. Notre Dame will award one to Obama when he speaks at their commencement this spring, even as some alumni, students, and the local bishop are protesting the decision because Obama supports abortion rights. Maybe the folks at ASU are upset about Obama’s even more heinous sin — namely, the slaughtering of a certain Arizonan’s presidential aspirations not too long ago. Hmmm?
