Fun With Mark Sanford’s Old Political Ads

This one comes to us via Anne Schroeder Mullins at Politico.com. Watch as, in this 2002 gubernatorial ad, the South Carolina governor effortlessly sets himself up to be toppled by his own folly and dishonesty a mere six years later. A guy who ran on “Christian values, character, and honesty” is now admitting that he “crossed lines with a handful of women other than mistress Maria Belen Chapur, but “never crossed the ultimate line” (that’s sex, guys) with anyone but the Argentine beauty. Again, this could happen to any philandering politician, Democrat or Republican. But try to count how many times Sanford’s fellow “values politicians” would cringe watching this ad now.
