Senate to Weigh Ban on Texting While Driving

Because we live in New York and don’t drive a car regularly, it wasn’t until relatively recently that we were confronted by the conundrum of what to do when you want to send a text while you are behind the wheel. It took us about half a second to discover that trying to do so is extremely dangerous. Now, the Senate is taking up a bill to make states ban texting and e-mailing while driving, or forfeit hundreds of millions in funding for highways. This we see as very fair — if we can’t text people during our commute because we’re on the subway, why should the rest of America get to do it? [NYT]
