We’ve known from the beginning that New York’s new archbishop, Timothy Dolan, was going to be a little more lighthearted and accessible than his predecessor, Edward Egan. But even we were surprised to learn from the Times today that Dolan is already blogging. His blog, the Gospel in the Digital Age, has been going on for about a month now. According to the paper, many church prelates are nervous about taking to the web. “The Internet can breed a kind of intensity, and negativity, that is hard to take,” Monsignor Kieran Harrington, a spokesman for the Church in Brooklyn, told the Times. But so far, Dolan’s only received one negative comment — for praising those socialist abortionists over at the United Nations — and he seems to be getting the hang of the wry tone. He’s already done some light trash-talking to Philadelphia archbishop Justin Rigali over the current World Series. And the famous baseball fan even had some kind words for those New Yorkers feeling left out on the eve of yesterday’s (tragic) game. “For Mets fans, please remember that October 28, the first day of the World Series, is also the Feast of Saint Jude,” he wrote. “The Patron Saint of Impossible Cases.”
