Liberal, Brooklyn-born gun-control advocate Chuck Schumer doesn’t really come across as the rugged, sportsman type (despite all the biking), but he was pretty successful on his first-ever hunting trip last weekend. “I got three pheasants,” he told reporters about his outing with the Senate’s most conservative Democrat, Nebraska’s Ben Nelson. Schumer, who is introducing legislation that would allow hunters to take tax deductions for donating their kills to the hungry, is apparently trying to become more palatable to upstate voters kind of the reverse Gillibrand.
