Media Columnist Jon Fine Out at Business Week

Jon Fine and his wife, Mediabistro founder Laurel Touby, happily left their gigs for a six-month sabbatical of travel and adventure starting in September. They’ve been cheerily blogging about the first leg of their trip on their blog, Culture Tripping, but the sabbatical plan this week had a hiccup: Fine was told by the new owners of Business Week — where he writes a respected media column — that there will not be a place for him when he returns. “I have absolutely no regrets,” he told FishbowlNY from a table at Peter Luger (they’re on a break from their trip at the moment). “We had a chance to do it, to go around the world and talk to media people on the ground. And that’s going to serve us well no matter what.” You know what else is going to serve them well? That $23 million Touby got paid two years ago for her share of Mediabistro.com.
