Washington Times to Cut at Least 40 Percent of Staff

The conservative Washington Times is finally addressing annual losses that at least one editor says have been ongoing for 27 straight years. Leaders announced to staff yesterday that at least 40 percent of the 370-member operation will be laid off, and that the paper will be distributed for free in some areas of the nation’s capital — mostly including branches of the federal government. The paper has faced increasing troubles since its controversial owner, Unification Church leader Reverend Sun Myung Moon, stepped down from daily operations. His heirs have been squabbling over how to run the daily paper, which has been a launching pad for the careers of many conservative reporters and commentators.
