Someone Is Going to Have to Shell Out at Least $200 Million for the 9/11 Trials

While early estimates pegged the cost for securing the trials of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other accused 9/11 plotters at $75 million a year, the NYPD now thinks it’ll be more like $200 million a year, according to the Daily News. It remains to be seen who will pick up the tab — the federal government or the city — but Chuck Schumer isn’t even doing the slowly-reaching-for-your-wallet-with-an-artificial-intention-to-actually-pay sort of thing. “One idea all New Yorkers agree on is that New York taxpayers should not have to pay a dime for these trials,” he said yesterday.
