The National Enquirer is so proud of its coverage of John Edwards and Rielle Hunter and little baby Quinn that it plans to submit its work for a Pulitzer Prize. Barry Levine, the tabloid’s executive editor, told the Washington Post that with Edwards’ admission of paternity comes “vindication, finally.” One problem with The Enquirer’s dream of winning a Pulitzer, as Howard Kurtz notices, is that most of its significant reporting on the story happened in 2007 and 2008 and this year’s Pulitzers will honor work done in 2009.
