The National Enquirer Wants a Pulitzer Prize

The National Enquirer is so proud of its coverage of John Edwards and Rielle Hunter and little baby Quinn that it plans to submit its work for a Pulitzer Prize. Barry Levine, the tabloid’s executive editor, told the Washington Post that with Edwards’ admission of paternity comes “vindication, finally.” One problem with The Enquirer’s dream of winning a Pulitzer, as Howard Kurtz notices, is that most of its significant reporting on the story happened in 2007 and 2008 and this year’s Pulitzers will honor work done in 2009. Another problem is that it’s The National Enquirer.
