At last! A divorce story more hideous than the Edwardses’! Dennis Hopper, actor, artist, occasional television spokesman for geriatric products, is a nice man but apparently impetuous about getting married, because he has done so five times. Now, at 73, soon after being diagnosed with inoperable prostate cancer, he has made the somewhat unorthodox decision to divorce his current wife, 42-year-old Victoria Duffy, as he is dying. As you might expect, this has caused some ugliness.

It might be good for her, as well. Friends tell the paper that Duffy is “exhausted,” “depressed,” and “X-ray thin,” apparently not in a good way.
