Man Who Set Brooklyn Fire Says He Was ‘Prompted by Demons’

Police have charged 27-year-old Daniel Ignacio with setting the fire in a Bensonhurst apartment building that killed five people and injured a baby this past Saturday. Ignacio was a resident of the building, and unsurprisingly, he has some severe problems:

Mr. Ignacio admitted to setting the fire and said that he had been prompted by demons, a law enforcement official said. The investigators believe that Mr. Ignacio was drunk when he set the fire, the official said.

“He said he went upstairs after setting the fire,” the official said. “The idea that this man had a vendetta is not it; there was something wrong with him and he was drunk.”

He’s been charged with five counts of second-degree murder and one count of arson.
