Wedding Planner David Tutera Misses Out on Getting His Own Breed of Orchid

A couple is suing television host and celebrity wedding planner David Tutera for ruining their wedding day. Melissa Chin and Steve Choi claim that Tutera, host of WE TV’s My Fair Wedding, didn’t show up to their Singapore wedding per his $200,000 contractual obligations, and left them without a bridal bouquet, a dance floor, table linens, and (and this is bad) a VIP table. “Plaintiffs have been harmed personally and financially,” reads the suit, which was obtained by the Daily News, and also claims the pair “had to live in a state of fear as to what items they needed to pay for in Singapore to make their wedding not fall apart.” Imagine, living in fear on your wedding day!

The suit says Chin and Choi paid a $100,000 deposit to Tutera, provided him with four round-trip business-class tickets from New York to Singapore, and agreed to put him up for six nights at the Shangri-La.

The couple say they even pledged to commission a hybrid orchid in Singapore and have it named in honor of the wedding planner to the stars.

Tutera claims that he didn’t show at the wedding because the father of the bride told him not to, as the wedding bill had grown too big to handle. We don’t know all the facts, but some elements of the Daily News story make us question this defense. The requirement of a VIP table at the wedding, for one. Also, this:

The suit says Chin and Choi paid a $100,000 deposit to Tutera, provided him with four round-trip business-class tickets from New York to Singapore and agreed to put him up for six nights at the Shangri-La.

And this:

Defendants were negotiating with several media outlets for the exclusive rights to broadcast the wedding and to highlight Defendant, David Tutera,” the suit says.

Oh, and this:

The couple say they even pledged to commission a hybrid orchid in Singapore and have it named in honor of the wedding planner to the stars.

Now, the latter two points may say a lot of things about the couple, but what they don’t say is, “When it comes to our wedding, even we have limits.”
