Wired, GQ, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and Glamour will be the first Condé Nast magazines to have versions created specifically for the new Apple iPad. GQ will be the first to appear on the iPad, with its April issue already set to be distributed in that format. The other titles will follow in the following months (GQ already has a successful iPod app). The group was chosen for its broad appeal. “They are representative of the company, right?” Thomas J. Wallace, editorial director of Condé Nast, told the Times. “GQ is men. Glamour is women. Vanity Fair is a dual audience. The New Yorker is unique with its periodicity, and therefore it’s also more news- or text-heavy, and it’s a slightly older audience.” The iPad versions will be sold through the iTunes store, which means that Condé won’t have direct access to the consumer data. But it does mean that you’ll be able to get your “Shouts & Murmurs” in the same place as your “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” podcasts — which is something the Volvo set has been waiting to get for a long time.
