Jesse James Releases Incoherent Statement, Blames Himself for ‘Poor Judgment’

Celebrity apologies are always a tricky business. There are those who take a preemptive, straightforward approach (David Letterman) … and then there are the ones who make the ill-advised choice to wait until weeks after their names have become New York Post headline fodder to make a statement (Chris Brown, Tiger Woods). So we were pleased (well, as pleased as you can be about stuff like this) to see that Jesse James — husband to America’s Reigning Sweetheart, Oscar winner Sandra Bullock — released a statement today, after being accused earlier this week of cheating on Bullock with a tattoo model. But then we read it.

James gave the following statement to People this afternoon, in which it is entirely unclear what he is apologizing for:

If most of what’s been reported is “untrue,” as James claims, then what is he referring to in this apology? How did he show “poor judgment”? (By fraternizing with someone who goes by the moniker “Bombshell” in the first place would seem like a good guess.) Ugh. Overly labored celebrity statements like this are annoying enough — the least we can ask for is that they make some modicum of sense, and actually state something.
