According to an encouraging tweet from the mayor’s office today (which was then repeated in Spanish), New York City residents are lagging way behind the national average in census participation. NYC has a six percent participation rate, compared to the nation’s 16 percent. Don’t they know we have so many more pressing things to deal with, like figuring out where to go to brunch and writing Facebook status updates about how exasperated we are?
