W. Axl Rose spent twenty-odd years hiding away in the mountains noodling with stupid album Chinese Democracy and now, like Mariah Carey after her divorce from Tommy Mottola, he has finally emerged from his cocoon and is getting back in the ring, so to speak. Today’s Post reports that Axl has been out partying nearly every night for the past three weeks, playing shows and hanging out with everyone from Scarlett Johansson to the Black Eyed Peas to, er, Kevin Bacon. “It’s like he’s showing the next generation how it’s done,” an awed pupil tells the Post.To be sure, at 48, with an extra fifteen pounds of padding, Axl doesn’t look or sound quite as good as he did back in the day, but that doesn’t matter as long as the lights are low and you’ve had a few drinks.
Or, as a writer called Ray LeMoine puts it:
“He’s Axl Rose playing in a small club. When do you want him to go on? I want him playing at 3 a.m. when I’m completely f - - - - d up.”
That said, it’s not quite as easy for Axl to close the deal as it used to be.
As Rose prepared to leave one club, The Post cornered him and asked how late he generally stays out. Rose just smirked. “As long as it takes,” he said.
