Democrats Annoy Republicans Into Ending Financial-Reform Filibuster

After a third attempt to end the Republican filibuster of the Senate’s financial-reform bill failed this afternoon, Democrats threatened to use procedural moves to force an all-night session tonight for no other reason than to disrupt the sleep cycles of their across-the-aisle adversaries, and hopefully generate some press about the ongoing filibuster. Well, that inconvenience was all it took, apparently, as the Republicans have decided to end their resistance. This doesn’t mean that the GOP is going to jump onboard with the bill all of a sudden (although enough of them are expected vote for it eventually). But they’ve decided that they can at least allow debate to begin — imagine that — and hopefully improve the bill in their favor once it’s on the floor.
