Madoff Whistleblower Harry Markopolos Is Honest to a Fault

Despite the fact that he ultimately failed, Boston-based accountant Harry Markopolos has been lauded, quite rightly, as a hero for the tenacity and courage he exhibited in his ten-year quest to alert the SEC to Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. In a field overpopulated with lax, shady creatures who only look out for themselves, he is a beacon of honesty and exemplary morals. But is Markopolos too transparent? His answer to the Observer’s question of whether, now that he has reached a certain level of fame, he will pose for Playgirl suggests yes. Unfortunately for his employees.

One in particular.

Oh my God. [laughs] Ummm … probably not … Actually, what my entire team and I are holding out for is an interview at the Playboy Mansion. Make sure you say that I say that half in jest. But as for the posing … we do have one member of the team, Neil Chelo, who’s single, his wife recently left him, and I think he would be the one to do it. I don’t think the rest of us see ourselves as sex objects.

Well. That’s awkward. Let’s try to turn this one around for poor Neil Chelo, who is pictured above. Neil Chelo, ladies! Thirty eight years old, recently brokenhearted, but gainfully employed and now famous! Have at him!
