New Jersey Teachers Union Prays for Chris Christie’s Death

Even before Chris Christie was elected governor of New Jersey, he and the state’s teachers unions weren’t very fond of each other. Now, three months into Christie’s term, some members of the New Jersey Education Association have gone from not liking him to wishing for his death. To wit, a memo sent out by the New Jersey Education Association stupidly contained the following prayer:

Dear Lord: This year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays … I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor.”

Ha! They want Christie to die!

Ha! They want Christie to die!

Christie responded furiously to the prayer, calling it “beyond the pale.” He added, “I don’t think it’s a threat. I think it’s a wish. A wish in some ways might be more perverse than a threat.”

The prayer first appeared a week ago on the Facebook page of “New Jersey Teachers Against Chris Christie’s Pay Freeze.” After it was attached to the memo, though, NJEA president Barbara Keshishian apologized to the Governor: “Language such as that has no place in civil discourse. It was intended as humor, but it’s not funny.” That might be a little much. It was at least a little funny.
