A passenger aboard a United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Denver was subdued by an air marshal tonight after doing something he shouldn’t have been doing. Initial reports said he was trying to set his shoe on fire, but now federal officials say he may have just been smoking in the restroom. To make matters even weirder, the guy is apparently a Qatari diplomat. [MSNBC]
Update: According to the Times, there was no threat. The guy was trying to smoke and, aware of his diplomatic immunity, decided to mouth off to the marshal.
