On the heels of his public complaints about floundering in quicksand with no support from the legislature, Governor Paterson is asking them for “extraordinary authority” to furlough 100,000 state workers, as he continues to attempt to combat the state’s $9 billion-plus deficit. After his talks with the public-employees union to reduce workforce costs didn’t produce savings, the governor is specifically looking for “one day of furlough in each appropriation that we make from here on until we pass this budget,” he said, adding for dramatic effect: “The crisis is worsening and we must take action.” [Knickerbocker/NYP]
And in the final moments of the debate, Biden opened the door for Dems to do just this now, as he attacked Warren and Bernie for being vague while pointing to what he said was his unique record of accomplishments
Biden: I’m the only one on this stage who has actually gotten anything really big done.
Sanders response: You’ve also gotten the disastrous Iraq War done and the bankruptcy bill that’s hurt the middle class done.
WARREN: I got the CFPB done.
BIDEN: I got you the votes for that.
WARREN: I’m grateful to Barack Obama who fought for it.
joe should have bidened less on that one
