Daily News Offers Another Round of Buyouts

Last week, staffers at the New York Daily News received a package from their employer offering a buyout, multiple sources involved with the tabloid said. The package, which listed pages’ worth of positions at the paper, seemed to be sent to all editorial employees. It offered a week’s worth of pay for every six months of work at the paper, with the decision deadline of May 21st. The Daily News declined to comment. This is the third buyout offer that’s been sent around in as many years — the last two came along in 2008. This is bad news for the paper, which went through an expensive conversion to full-color printing last year, and has been feeling lighter in recent weeks.
