Faisal Shahzad, the 30-year-old man arrested for parking an explosive-laden Nissan Pathfinder in Times Square and then attempting to flee the country, has told officials that he acted alone, according to the Times. (Shahzad was tracked to JFK airport through his personal car, a white Isuzu Trooper, in which he’d left a loaded gun.) But the Daily News reports that “U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said authorities are hunting for other suspect[s],” and “at least three other people were involved in buying the bomb materials found in the Pathfinder.” Shahzad himself will appear in Manhattan Federal Court this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Taliban have claimed responsibility for the bomb plot, though U.S. officials are skeptical.
Shahzad has lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for about three years with his wife, Huma Mian. Neighbors said they spoke limited English and had two young kids, but did not behave suspiciously. They moved out last year, after which point Karachi native Shahzad returned to Pakistan for a trip. According to The Wall Street Journal, “during that trip he traveled to Peshawar, a gateway town to the tribal areas where the Pakistan army is engaged in a war against the Taliban.” The paper said it was unclear whether he’d returned since that summer trip, though it is believed he still has family in Karachi.
