Once Again, Government Estimates Well Is Leaking Even More Oil Than Previously Thought

Just last week it was estimated that the damaged BP well was spewing out 25,000 barrels of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico. Now, a new government estimate puts that number somewhere between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels a day (25 to 43 percent of which is being captured by BP’s cap technology). That top number would mean that 2.5 million gallons of oil are shooting from the ground every day, or the amount of the entire Exxon Valdez spill every four days.
