General McChrystal Has Left the Building (Updated)

The highly anticipated tête-à-tête between an unbearably clench-jawed President Obama and General Stanley McChrystal has wrapped up after 30 minutes, but it’s still unknown what will or has already become of McChrystal. Despite a scheduled 11:35 a.m. meeting in the Situation Room with the the whole Afghanistan team, McChrystal “abruptly” left the White House after his talk with Obama this morning. Is he coming back for the next meeting? Is he just getting lunch? Or finding a quiet place to weep? We’ll find out soon enough.

Update: The Afghanistan-Pakistan meeting is under way, and according to Politico, “Reporters and cameramen staking out the West Executive entrance have not seen McChrystal.” NBC also reports that McChrystal “was not seen returning for the bigger war meeting, as he had been expected to.” Obviously, if McChrystal was not at this meeting, it doesn’t bode well for his future involvement with the war in Afghanistan.

Update II: Obama will make a statement in the Rose Garden at 1:30 p.m.
