Justice Department Could Sue Arizona As Early As Today

The Justice Department could sue to stop Arizona’s controversial illegal-immigration law (first announced by Hillary Clinton on Ecuadorian television) as early as today, according to the Washington Post. The suit will be based on “the legal doctrine of ‘preemption,’ which is based on the Constitution’s supremacy clause and says that federal law trumps state statutes. Justice Department officials believe that enforcing immigration laws is a federal responsibility,” one that the federal government will presumably get around to carrying out when it’s good and ready.
