The battle for the recently vacated front-row-center seat of Helen Thomas in the White House briefing room was thought to be between Bloomberg and Fox News. But now NPR has thrown its hat into the ring, pointing out in a letter to the White House Correspondents’ Association that it’s had a full-time White House correspondent since the seventies and has grown far beyond the “relatively select audience” (read: hip liberal nerds) it used to attract.
