Government Spent Billions to Update the Résumés of Thousands of People

Presented without comment: The numbers in this morning’s Times story about the dubious benefits of government-sponsored employment-training programs:

• For 2009-2010, the government increased the amount it sent to states for training programs devoted to laid-off workers by $1.4 billion. This is on top of $2.9 billion already allocated, bringing the amount spent on said programs to $4.3 billion.

• Last year, the number of laid-off workers in job training reached 241,000, according to the Labor Department.
