Chris Christie Blames Washington for Not Fixing New Jersey’s Race to the Top Blunder

After just barely losing out on $400 million in federal education money because his state’s Race to the Top application included budgetary data from the wrong years, New Jersey governor Chris Christie claimed that the lazy bureaucrats in the federal government are really to blame. “Does anybody in Washington, D.C. have a lick of common sense? Pick up the phone and ask us for the number,” he said, also adding that they could have found the correct information on the Internet. Christie then declined to name the “mid-level official” at New Jersey’s Department of Education who failed to follow the application’s directions properly, because “he did not want to scapegoat anyone.”
