Everybody’s Sad About the Closing of the Barnes & Noble on 66th and Broadway

Man, you should have heard the NPR people going on about it this morning. The Upper West Side is clearly going to miss the fifteen-year-old megastore, which featured regular readings and performances and provided a cool oasis of reading and leisure in the middle of one of the neighborhood’s busiest intersections. It’s closing due to rent hikes. Now, to replicate the experience, Upper West Siders are going to have to trudge all the way up to … 82nd and Broadway, where there is another massive Barnes & Noble.
