A new report has named McCain the senator with the highest “Digital I.Q.,” a metric based on use of social media, including frequency of posts and number of followers. Overall, the study — conducted by George Washington and New York Universities — found that Republicans are more social-media-savvy than their Democratic counterparts, averaging more than 5.5 I.Q. points higher. Seven senators (four Republicans, three Democrats) scored “genius” social-media ratings: McCain; Jim DeMint; Scott Brown; John Cornyn, Harry Reid and Al Franken in a three-way tie for the No. 4 spot; and Barbara Boxer. Considering McCain’s favorite Twitter buddy, though, the word “genius” is being used here rather loosely. [Politico via Gawker]
