Miss Mexico Named Miss Universe

Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old from Guadalajara, won the Miss Universe pageant Monday night, marking the second time the country has been victorious. When asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek (who apparently is looking for things to do these days) during the competition’s interview portion how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, she said parents have to be careful about restricting the web habits of their children: “I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time,” she said. “We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family.” As the winner, she gets “an undisclosed salary,” a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing when her reign is over, as well as jewelry, clothes, and shoes. Not bad.
