SeaWorld Faces Penalties for Killer Whale Accident

SeaWorld Orlando has been fined $75,000 for three separate violations in connection with the February death of a trainer grabbed by killer whale Tilikum and dragged underwater. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the most serious violation was the park’s “indifference or intentional disregard for employee safety,” as it exposed workers to drowning hazards in their daily work. The agency also proposed that trainers should not have any physical contact with Tilikum unless protected by a physical barrier. [WP]
