Mayfield, Kentucky August 24: A permit by a Muslim group to open a mosque was denied because, with only six parking spaces in the lot, area residents were concerned that parking would overflow into the streets and neighboring businesses.
New Hyde Park, New York Present day: An Islamic center is seeking to build more parking spaces in an adjacent property that it owns because presently, a trustee explains, “on a busy evening, many worshipers have to park on the street.” Area residents oppose this plan, because “if they increase the size of the parking lot, more people are going to come and there’s still going to be parking on our streets.”
