Cab Crashes Through the Walls of East Village Coffee Shop [Updated]

A cab crashed into popular East Village hangout the Bean at 1:30 a.m. this morning. Witnesses said the taxi swerved to avoid an SUV that may have run a red light at First Avenue and East 3rd Street, and hit two bicyclists before crashing into the coffee shop, where it hit another man. Hearing the clamor, neighbors came out to help, and five people were taken to Bellevue Hospital, including the taxi driver and his passenger. All are said to be in stable condition. One cyclist hit by the taxi, Will Jordan, 29, an East Village resident and director of marketing at the Maritime Hotel, was said to be “a total trooper” about the whole thing.

Update: A tipster writes in to say that Jordan is “pretty beaten up with some fractures and cuts,” but “doing really well.” Jordan even “made a joke about wanting a cute outfit to leave the hospital so he can meet the press looking good.”
