Governor Charlie Christ hailed the decision, by Judge Gerald Cope of Florida’s Third District Court of Appeals, and ordered that state agencies should immediately stop enforcing the ban. “It’s a very good day for Florida; it’s a great day for children,” he said. “Children deserve a loving home to be in.” Judge Cope said that the law had “no rational basis” and violated the Equal Protection Clause of the State Constitution.
