More Fun With Negative Advertising in the A.G. Race

It’s only two days until the Democratic primary for attorney general, and the race has taken a (relatively mild) negative turn. On Friday, Nassau District Attorney and former front-runner Kathleen Rice started airing television ads that characterized State Senator Eric Schneiderman as an Albany party-machine hack. Today, Schneiderman’s campaign struck back with an ad calling Rice a “Democrat only since 2005” and accused her of turning her back on working mothers. (The narrator was, of course, a woman.) The New York Times endorsement Schneiderman received in August is mentioned three times in 30 seconds.

Rice responded by playing the Hillary card. “Both Hillary Clinton & Kathleen Rice were once Republicans who became committed Democrats,” she said.
