Stewart held back from any sort of scathing rant in discussing Rick Sanchez on The Daily Show Monday night. While he did play Sanchez’s comments from Friday and responded with requisite outrage, even playing a mash-up comparing Sanchez to The Office’s Michael Scott, he moved on to focus primarily on two other points. Stewart first expressed dismay over the media’s breathless coverage of his brief mention of Sanchez at Saturday night’s autism-research fund-raiser, wishing the focus had been on the money raised instead. And then he played footage of Sanchez calling out an actual bigot on his show in August, leading Stewart to describe the whole incident as “a chance to get in touch with, not our dirtier, but our better Sanchezes.”
