In the next few weeks, the Obama administration is expected to get more aggressive on Internet privacy, with new laws and a privacy czar to oversee the initiative. A task force led by Cameron Kerry, John Kerry’s brother and a former professor of telecommunications law, is trying to craft recommendations into policy. Currently, privacy issues are regulated by the FTC, which is allowed to intercede only if the action is “deceptive” or “unfair.” Republicans, who have gotten vocal about privacy violations in recent weeks, might still be reluctant to back any increased “government” to actually oversee it.
