Ron Paul Would Like to Give You Back Your Dignity

Everyone is really bringing their A-game in response to the TSA’s controversial pat-down and body scanners. For his part, Texas congressman Ron Paul introduced a piece of legislation called the American Traveler Dignity Act that aims to “protect Americans from physical and emotional abuse by federal Transportation Security Administration employees.” He adds:

In one recent well-publicized case, a TSA official is recorded during an attempted body search saying, “By buying your ticket you gave up a lot of rights.” I strongly disagree and am sure I am not alone in believing that we Americans should never give up our rights in order to travel.

Paul forgot to mention that the official’s statement was a response to a patriotic passenger, who threatened, “‘If you touch my junk, I’ll have you arrested.” Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, on the other hand, tries to show her support for the scanners, saying: “I’m wildly excited that I can walk through a machine instead of getting my dose of love pats.”

There might actually be something to that loss of dignity, because it we’re now the butt of Canada’s jokes. The natural order of things needs to be restored. Stat.
