Sasha Frere-Jones Signs On to Murdoch’s Tablet Tabloid

The latest person to sign on with News Corp.’s planned iPad newspaper (currently called The Daily, officially, but nicknamed The Daily Planet inside the company) is New Yorker pop-music critic Sasha Frere-Jones. David Carr reports that Frere-Jones will become the culture editor of the new publication. He joins former “Page Six” editor Richard Johnson, Post editor Jesse Angelo, and former AOL News editor Mike Nizza on the project. Frere-Jones will remain under contract with The New Yorker, according to editor David Remnick. “People who write here do all sorts of things — books, other writing — so he can do what he wants as long as the work here doesn’t suffer.”
