Govenor Paterson: ‘I’m a Shell of the Man I Was Before I Became Governor’

The lame duck is getting emotional in the twilight of his governorship. On WFAN radio Wednesday afternoon, he reminisced about early 2008, saying he was preparing to eat lunch in his office when he learned Spitzer was stepping down. And then: “I think my life just changed,” he recalled. “It’s been very challenging, very difficult, very painful at times. The caliber of people I worked with in Albany 25 years ago is far superior than it is now. People are more nasty, and there are more ways to be nasty — blogs, and 24-hour [news] cycles. I’ve gotten soft. I’m a shell of the man I was before I became governor.” Wow, hear that, New York? You wore him out. [NYDN]
